1. Define which techniques you tried and mastered? Struggled? 2. How did you draw inspiration from other artists techniques or aesthetics in your work? In what ways did you derive meaning or gain historical perspectives from their work? Why these artists? 3. Describe the evolution of your piece. Decisions made. Compositional elements. 4. If you could consider doing something over, explain why you would do this and what you would do next time? 5. Elaborate on how this piece links with your other pieces? What is the common thread?
1. A technique that I had tried to incorporate within my composition was burnishing. Previously I had tried this technique and I wanted to try it again. I was able to master this technique by the end of my working process , thus I had not blending some of my colors in the beginning enough. 2. I had drawn inspiration from my own peers, whom have created many pieces with color pencil. Additionally, I had drawn inspiration from animators and films which commonly create worlds out of nothing. I wanted to do a similar thing within my own composition. 3. Throughout my creation process, I had first drawn the skeleton and taken reference pictures for my lantern. As I progressed I added more aspects to this composition such as the stars and colors in order to further highlight the lantern. 4. If I had the opportunity to do this piece again I would choose to do this piece on a smaller sheet of paper. This will prevent less negative space to be present. Additionally, I would add more black throughout the composition. 5. This piece links to my theme of identity in that it depicts the impact and light that one brings to the community around them. Identity is explored as the love and input one contributes to society is depicted to touch not just one individual but multiple. However, at the same time the center of focus, the flame which provides light towards its own society, wants to explore its own identity with the others around it.
