1. Define which techniques you tried and mastered? Struggled? 2. How did you draw inspiration from other artists techniques or aesthetics in your work? In what ways did you derive meaning or gain historical perspectives from their work? Why these artists? 3. Describe the evolution of your piece. Decisions made. Compositional elements. 4. If you could consider doing something over, explain why you would do this and what you would do next time? 5. Elaborate on how this piece links with your other pieces? What is the common thread?
1. Techniques that I had tried and mastered was the control and difference between the use of wet-on-wet painting and wet-on-dry painting in order to attain desired outcomes. Through these different techniques I was able to differentiate between the sky and the water. Compared to my first times trying these different techniques of painting I was able to master the portions and control of watercolor. 2. I had drawn inspiration from Eiichiro Oda, illustrator of the famous manga "One Piece." I had drawn inspiration from the detail and stories that he tells through his work. From his work I gained the inspiration of creating pieces that explored the adventure in life. In particular, this first piece will embody the start of an adventure in a mythical and unknown location. 3. Throughout my creation process, I did not know what details that I had wanted to include in my composition. Thus I spent a lot of my time doodling and finding ideas. Furthermore, I had originally not planned for the incorporation of plants and green water. However, with further planning I began to fill my page more. One of the main aspects I had maintained throughout my piece was the rule of thirds in relation to the boat and the skeleton. Despite these considerations it was not until the end when I decided to extend certain pieces and elements such as the tree branch and fish. 4. If I had the opportunity to do this piece again I would consider making the size of this piece larger and extending the green and disgusting water further. In doing so the water becomes more obvious against the contrast of the beautiful skies and backgrounds. 5. This piece links to my theme of identity in that it will be one of the first pieces that explores the beauty and truths within life. These different truths and ideas are ones that influence the identity of an individual and their perception of reality.
