1. Define which techniques you tried and mastered? Struggled? 2. How did you draw inspiration from other artists techniques or aesthetics in your work? In what ways did you derive meaning or gain historical perspectives from their work? Why these artists? 3. Describe the evolution of your piece. Decisions made. Compositional elements. 4. If you could consider doing something over, explain why you would do this and what you would do next time? 5. Elaborate on how this piece links with your other pieces? What is the common thread?
1. Techniques I tried was the blending of different colors in the backgrounds and trying out what colors would blend well together. It was especially using chalk pastel to color in the smaller holes in my piece. 2. I had drawn inspiration from other artists when I had looked at other examples of social issues pieces. I more specifically focused on methods that artists would use to convey their message. While I did not explore a specific artist I felt a stronger connection towards artwork that focused on the inequality of power and the misuse of it. 3. Initially in my piece I had different silhouettes of people from different backgrounds who were all connected to the security camera. However I felt like the piece would be too empty. From there I drew inspiration from my art pieces from the past. The use of other silhouettes were then included as I thought of things that I felt affected me and those around me. While knowing that I wanted to maintain the black and white value the background blended in with my white silhouettes which prompted me to add a splurge of color. 4. If I were to do a similar project I would take painters tape and cut out the outlines of the white sections in my piece and keep them there until the very end. In this way the other colors would not smear and taint my white sections. 5. This piece connects with my previous pieces as they all follow this common theme of "identity". In this piece I took the opportunity to acknowledge the different ways that society molds us through constantly watching and judging us. Furthermore we look at issues around the world through our own lens, some of the time this could mean that we are ignorant of the problems in society. This especially happens through the media paints everything in black and white, constantly their own colors and opinions into every piece of news given to us.
