1. Define which techniques you tried and mastered? Struggled? 2. How did you draw inspiration from other artists techniques or aesthetics in your work? In what ways did you derive meaning or gain historical perspectives from their work? Why these artists? 3. Describe the evolution of your piece. Decisions made. Compositional elements. 4. If you could consider doing something over, explain why you would do this and what you would do next time? 5. Elaborate on how this piece links with your other pieces? What is the common thread?
1. Techniques that I had struggled was the utilization of light and dark through the use of watercolor. However I was able to master this through balancing my water to paint ratio. In addition, I had mastered the use of drip painting in order to add another layer to my piece. Another technique hat I had mastered and tried was the utilization of paint brushes to create texture. 2. I had drawn inspiration looking at pictures of coral reefs online. In particular I had been struck with the majestic portrayal of coral reefs within the pictures. The different shapes and gradient that was created with each coral and picture was one of the factors that had lead me to draw this piece. 3. Throughout my creation process, I had focused a lot of attention on adding details to the corals. I added green to the blue water in order to highlight the colors further and decided to incorporated warm colors within my composition to contrast and highlight the water. 4. If I had the opportunity to do this piece again I would consider making adding more coral to the right third of my piece and making the coral reefs bigger. I would do this to draw the attention towards the reefs more. Another thing I could do to this composition is added more texture to the negative space. 5. This piece links to my theme of identity in that it explores an ever present form within the world that people live in. Through the internet and travel individuals are always exposed to the ocean and water. However, throughout our exposure to the environment we are consciously or unconsciously hurting it. Our connection to the environment and impact on it is inevitable and is something that we can either allow the impact to mold the world we live in or us to impact it.
