1. Define which techniques you tried and mastered? Struggled? 2. How did you draw inspiration from other artists techniques or aesthetics in your work? In what ways did you derive meaning or gain historical perspectives from their work? Why these artists? 3. Describe the evolution of your piece. Decisions made. Compositional elements. 4. If you could consider doing something over, explain why you would do this and what you would do next time? 5. Elaborate on how this piece links with your other pieces? What is the common thread?
1. A technique that I had tried to incorporate within my composition was the utilization of watercolor and ink in order to create value throughout the whole piece. One of the aspects that I had struggled with most was dependency on the different values of green in order to depict the woman. In addition, within this process I had used ink. Thus, there was not much room for manipulation once I have put a color on my paper. 2. I had drawn inspiration from my own peers in which they created nuance between realism and fantasy in order to demonstrate statement about life. Therefore, I had also wanted to create my own work that portrayed a sense of realism and "striking" fantasy to it. 3. Throughout my creation process, I had first drawn the woman and the skeleton hands with the general idea of what I had wanted to draw in mind. When thinking about the color composition I decided to incorporate roses in order to contrast the consistent green throughout my piece. Because, I had purple ink, I had decided to incorporate the color. Having negative space in the back I had decided to utilize my purple to create a fluid background. In addition, I wanted to maintain a similar component throughout my piece, thus I included a key. 4. If I had the opportunity to do this piece again I would add more shadows throughout the hair in order to enhance the realistic perspective to the piece. I would also have incorporate more roses coming from the other arm. In addition I would also include vines climbing up the skeleton's arm. However, after realizing some of these aspects too late I can no longer change this. 5. This piece links to my theme of identity in that it explores the journey of individuals within a world that I have created and the identity that they have created for themselves in such a world. Within the world this woman exists in she is incredibly sad however, society prevents her from expressing her sadness. Another possible perspective to this piece is the sadness that embodies this woman and the efforts from those around her in order to maker her happy.
